(UPM Tilhill, North Wales, 23 June, 2010) - Representatives from some of the UK’s best known figures in the forestry industry will be competing in this year’s Forest Products Challenge.
Supported and sponsored by UPM Tilhill and AW Jenkinsons and taking place on 24 June at Coed Llandegla in North Wales, the event involves the 80 participants riding two loops of the red and black trails at the well-known mountain biking centre.
Twenty teams of four are taking part including: Kronospan, E.ON, Clifford Jones timber; UPM Shotton Paper; Egger Forest Products; BSW Howie; Scottish Woodland; Forestry Commission Scotland and Forestry Commission Wales.
Olympic gold medallist Chris Boardman, who often cycles on the trails at Coed Llandegla, has donated a signed jersey that will be raffled at the event to raise money for the charity Tree Aid.
UPM Tilhill Mountain Bike Contract Manager Simon Miller, who organised the event with UPM’s UK Exports Manager Steve Bradley, said: “It’s an opportunity for the ‘Who’s, Who’ of the forestry industry to try out the amazing mountain biking trails at Coed Llandegla and strengthen relationships within the forestry community, as well as raise some money for Tree Aid.”
It is the second time the event has been held Coed Llandeglla - the UK’s first mountain biking centre in a privately owned forest. Coed Llandegla is now welcoming 150,000 visitors a year and was featured as the best mountain bike trail centre in the UK by MBUK magazine. It is also being used by British Cycling (BC) - the national body for cycle racing in the UK - as a mountain-bike training venue.
